Gameplay footage from the first level of the 4L demo of the original Marathon game on the Macintosh. It’s coming up on 15 years since this first glimpse of the legendary game was released. Actually, second glimpse, if you differentiate demo 0.0, which I couldn’t find a copy of online. Anyway, playing this old demo sure took me back. This opening level, with it’s haunting soundtrack, is an experience seared into my brain.
For those only familiar with Aleph One, you can see the original HUD in this version of the game. You can also hear that the music in Aleph One was recorded directly from this original rendition that used the Quicktime 2 instrument set (it’s the only way the music has ever sounded “right” to me). BTW, this is just a quick run through on normal difficulty. I’m not showing off any vidmaster skills.
I had to pull this off a video mirror on my PowerBook using composite cables, so the quality leaves a little something to be desired.
